West Virginia Oral Health Coalition meets

PARKERSBURG, W. Va. (WTAP) - West Virginia Oral Health Coalition is planning for the future. The state oral health plan is a 5 year plan and it is time to renew the plan for 2020-2025.

West Virginia Oral Health Coalition held a meeting in conjunction with the state oral health plan through the Department of Health and Human Resources. The focus of the coalition and the state oral health program is healthy mouths for everyone.

There are a lot of people that do not have insurance and cannot access dental care so one of the goals of the state plan and the coalition is to improve the oral health of all residents in our state.

"We are one of only 3 health departments in the whole state that have a dental program and we are always working to expand and improve that and it's been a community project over the years. Our local dentists have been involved, our local funders have been involved and we want to see that continue and grow because there's a very true need," said Mary Beth Shea, oral health coordinator, Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department.

The West Virginia Oral Health Coalition is open to the public and is always looking for diverse memberships and isn't limited to dental professionals; they are looking for medical professionals and the public as well.
