CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection says it is accepting registrations for the fall Adopt-A-Highway cleanup.

The statewide event is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 29. Volunteers have until Sept. 21 to register.

The program aims to improve the quality of the environment through public involvement by eliminating highway litter. Since the program began in 1988, volunteers have cleaned up close to 70,000 miles of state highways and roads.

You can register by calling 800-322-5530 or by sending an email to dep.aahwv.gov.
