Wood County Sheriff K-9 wins photo contest

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - You may now see the face of a local K-9 all throughout the region and it’s all thanks to the community.

Wood County Sheriff Steve Stephens posted on Facebook Wednesday saying that Drago, one of the department’s K-9s, won the “Protection4Paws Event Tent Photo Contest.”

Protection4Paws donates items needed for canines.

Drago beat out dozens of other dogs from departments around the country by garnering more than 6,800 votes. Now that he won, photos of Drago will be plastered on Protection4Paws’ tents during their events.

Sheriff Stephens says he appreciates Drago being recognized.

“It’s just outstanding to see the support and not only just for our department but for canines in general because some people are wishy washy when it comes to dogs and that and these dogs we treat these dogs just like we do a human being they are deputies and it’s really kind of nice to see them get the recognition that they deserve,” Sheriff Stephens said.

Drago recently celebrated his 3rd birthday.
