Zion Baptist Church to host Martin Luther King Jr. weekend celebration

PARKERSBURG, W. Va. (WTAP) - The Martin Luther King Jr. holiday will be celebrated on Monday nationally, but Zion Baptist Church is preparing for a celebration this Sunday.

Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated 51 years ago, but his legacy and message still lives on.

The church says, they have the celebration every year to honor his message of equality for all. Zion Baptist Church invites people from all different walks of life to join them.

"In Parkersburg, even though we're small in numbers, minorities. It's still important that we all get along and we all need to practice some of his actions," said Cynthia Brown, Zion Baptist Church, member.

Eric Ellis is the president and CEO of Integrity Development Corporation which is a diversity and inclusion consulting firm. Ellis will be the guest speaker at the celebration.

The Martin Luther King Jr. celebration will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday at Zion Baptist Church, 415 E. 8th St. in Parkersburg.
