Neil Vernon Berg, 79, of Belpre, Ohio, died Thursday February 7, 2019, at Heartland of Marietta.
He was born on October 5, 1939, in Marietta to the Cecil Vernon Berg and Vernia Almond Berg.
Neil was a 1959 graduate of Marietta High School. He retired from Forma Scientific (Thermo Fisher). Neil was active in the Marietta Jaycees in his mid 30’s. He was a former President and member of the Pioneer Motorcycle Club. He was a life member of the American Motorcycle Association. He was a supporter of Bowling, serving the local Association and Past President of the Ohio State Bowling Association. Neil was a Young American Bowling Association certified coach as well as serving on the Ohio Youth Bowling Association.
Neil was an active member of American Legion Squadron 750. Neil served as the representative of District 11 Sons of the American Legion prior to it’s establishment. He served as Commander of the Squadron 750 and as the S.A.L. District 11. He was a charter member of V.F.W. 5108 Mens Auxiliary. He was a volunteer driver for the Washington County Veterans Administration.
Neil enjoyed spending time with his Grandchildren and supporting them in all their sporting events.
He is survived by his wife Carol Burton, who celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary on Dec. 20. They have sons, Richard of Granger, Indiana and William of Marietta and two grandsons, Jacob and Ethan of Marietta, two granddaughters, Kassandra of Marietta and Greta of South Bend, Indiana and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather Eugene Offenberger, stepmother Lois Berg, son Robert, sister Lindia Offenberger, and brother Delbert Offenberger.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday (Feb. 12) at 11:00 am at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with burial following in East Lawn Memorial Park.
Family will greet friends on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 and on Monday 2 to 4 and 6 to 8.
