Dolores Rea Kemp, 86, of Vincent, Ohio, died at the Belpre Landing on June 1, 2019 surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Hebron, WV on March 24, 1933 and was the oldest daughter of the late Dallas Wilber and Esther Oletta Wilson Rea.

Dolores was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School and was a member of the National Honor Society. She started working at a young age in order to help support her family. Some of her many jobs in the St. Mary’s area included Telephone Operator at United Telephone Co., Waitress at Hi-Way Grille, Clerk at Phillips Drug Store, Switchboard Operator at Quaker State and Switchboard Operator at Libby Owens Ford in Vienna. She was one of the first females in purchasing at Marbon Chemical at Washington, W.Va. Known as “The World Book Lady”, she was a Division Sales Manager for World Book Encyclopedias retiring with over 20 years of service. She was a Girl Scout leader and a lifetime member of the Stepping Stones for Ohio Valley University.

Dolores was a member of the Lynn Street Church of Christ and former long-time member of the Belpre Church of Christ and the Grand Central Church of Christ. She was host for the Young at Heart Senior Group at the Belpre Church of Christ for over 11 years where she planned many memorable trips for the seniors in the area. She, along with some of her best friends were referred to as “The Golden Girls”. She enjoyed watching Ohio State Football and Cleveland Cavaliers basketball games. She also enjoyed watching Hallmark Christmas Movies. She loved Christmas time and kept her Christmas Tree up until at least February. She enjoyed family trips, especially to Myrle Beach.

Dolores was most proud of her children especially her granddaughter Jaelyn. Dolores was referred to as and had many roles; mom, sister, aunt, friend, but her favorite was "Mamaw". She cherished her family and played an integral role in the lives of those close to her. She taught so much to so many. She was a rock, confidant and advisor to many of her family and friends. Always positive and confident, she led by example and was the perfect role model for parenting, grandparenting and unconditional love. She was deeply rooted in her faith. Dolores often referred to those who helped take care of her as her “Angels.” Dolores will be missed by many as she touched so many lives. She was simply magnificent.

Survivors include her son, Keith Quentin Kemp of Fairmont, WV, a daughter, Lori Kemp (Jason) Heldreth of Bridgeport, WV, a granddaughter, Jaelyn Rea Heldreth, a brother Gary (Linda) Rea of Martinez, GA, sisters, Rita (Paul) Fridley of Little Hocking, Ohio, Mary Lamp of Vienna, WV, Florence "Debbie" Brady of Marietta, Carolyn "Sue" (Ron) McFarland of St. Mary's, WV, Linda (Don) Lynch of Williamstown, WV. Also surviving is a special member of the family, Sharon Lewis, who was her caregiver for 11 years. Also, a special friend Kim Williamson, several nieces and nephews, and her cat Punky. She is referred to as the matriarch of her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 55 years, Archie Gene Kemp; 2 infant brothers, Neil and Carlos; a brother, T. Wilber Rea; and two brother-in-laws, Kenneth Lamp and Morris "Gene" Brady.

The family would like to thank the staff at Belpre Landing and Buckeye Hospice for the love and care they showed to Dolores while she was there.

Services will be on Monday at 1 p.m. at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Belpre with Ron Laughery officiating. Burial will follow in the Willow Island Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and one hour prior to services on Monday.
