Delores Jean Smith left her earthly home for heaven on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2019.
She was born October 30, 1930, in Holsopple, Pa., the fourth child of Earl Henry and Susanna Stephenson Ringler.
She attended school in Pennsylvania and Ohio, and married David A. Smith in 1947 at the Baptist Temple in Akron, Ohio.
Dave and Delores moved to Ritchie County in 1956 and remained residents since. Delores worked at the Ritchie Gazette for 13 years before she and Dave purchased the newspaper in 1974. She was owner/editor/publisher until her retirement in 1996. All of her daughters worked with her at some point at the newspaper.
Delores was a member of the Harrisville Baptist Church and a past member of Harrisville Chapter 29 of the Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed flowers and watching wildlife from the front porch of her farm home.
Delores is survived by daughters Judy Newbrough, Peggy (Tony) Tanzey, Delores “D. J.” (Ron) Allen, and Robin (Norman) Haddox; six grandchildren, Stuart Newbrough, Nicole Hansen, Amber Smith, Erin Allen, Melanie Weekley, Rachel Alborano; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Nancy Lasick and Sue Santo; brother Dennis (Claudia) Ringler; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Dave; grandson Christopher Allen; brothers, Jim Ringler, Bill Ringler, Dwaine Ringler and twin infant sisters.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, 2019, at Raiguel Funeral Home with Pastor Robert Perine and Pastor Mark Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Harrisville IOOF Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 4-8 p.m. and after 9 a.m. on Saturday.
