Copen Commits to Marshall

PARKERSBUG, W.VA. (WTAP)- When Pat Copen's pitching days are over at Parkersburg Catholic, he has a slot open for him on the Marshall University baseball roster.

Monday Copen verbally committed to the Green and White, accepting a baseball scholarship offer from Thundering Herd baseball coach Jeff Waggoner.

Copen will make his commitment official when he signs his letter of intent accepting the scholarship in November.

He made the announcement on his Twitter account.

Copen just wrapped up his junior season with the Crusaders.

This past season he was Second Team All State and First Team All Little Kanawha Conference.

The 6 foot 5 right hander can bring the heat with a fastball in the high 80's and low 90's.

Copen can throw for strikes. Compiling 84 strikeouts in 47 innings with an earned run average of 2. 51.

He also has had the attention of the pros scouts.

Copen's decision to go with Marshall University was a collaborative effort with his parents, and he believes it's a good fit for his educational and baseball future.
