WTAP SPORTS- Week number 10 of the high school football season meant the final Friday for high school football teams and featured some playoff caliber matchups for some of our area West Virginia teams.
In a class A Showdown in West Union 6th ranked Doddridge County knocked of 4th ranked Williamstown 14-7 The Bulls are now 9-0 on the season. The Yellowjackets have their 8 game winning streak snapped and finish the regular season at 8-2. They’ll host an opening round playoff game in 2 weeks.
In a Class AAA battle of the Patriots. 6th ranked Parkersburg South romps over 8th ranked Wheeling Park 30-0. The South Patriot's winning streak improves to 6 in a row. The 7-2 Patriots will finish the regular season next Friday night at arch rival Parkersburg High.
In another game with playoff ranking implications in the big school division 9th Ranked Parkersburg High lose a tough one on he road at 6th ranked Huntington. The Highlanders prevail 27-21 in overtime.
In an all Washington County clash, The Waterford Wildcats down Belpre 24-17 to nail down a home playoff game next week.
The Marietta Tigers close out their season with a loss on the road at Zanesville 41-7
The Warren Warriors closed out their season with a 39-0 loss at John Marshall.
Parkersburg Catholic bounces back with a 43-0 victory on the road at Hannan. The Crusaders finish the regular season at 9-1 and await an opening round game of the playoffs in two weeks.
