PARKERSBURG, W. Va. (WTAP)- The grind started at seven years old for Alyssa Gates. Countless hours of work on the softball diamond has materialized into a dream come true of playing college ball.
Alyssa made it official with Ohio Valley University with her family, coaching staff and friends on hand.
Alyssa mostly pitched for the Parkersburg High Big Reds in a two-year career and is expected to be in the pitcher's circle for the Lady Scots.
She has collected all Mountain State Athletic Conference honors for her work as a pitcher, who racked up 24 strikeouts in four wins this past season.
She was also solid at the plate with 20 hits and 12 RBI's. She will join two high school teammates at OVU.
Alyssa intends to couple her athletic career with a major in early education with plans to become a kindergarten teacher.
She has worked hard for this moment.
"I'm excited because this is what I've always wanted to do," she said at her signing ceremony.
"I've always had dreams of playing college softball and I'm really excited to extend my career to OVU. It's a great feeling. I liked PHS a lot, I liked the atmosphere, I liked the team. They were a great group of girls. I liked the team and I had a great two years here."
