Ohio Valley University cancels women's soccer season

VIENNA, W.VA. (WTAP)- Ohio Valley University will not be fielding a women's soccer team this fall.

The announcement was made on the school's website by OVU's interim athletic director Larry Lyons and the Fighting Scots women's coach Telma Poole .

a lack of players to field a competitive team was cited as the reason

OVU is an NCAA Division 2 school that competes in the Great Midwestern athletic conference

Last year the Lady Fighting Scots were league champions with a 17-3-3 record and won a game in the NCAA tournament

In recent weeks Ohio Valley's women's program has seen a head coach resign, it's all time leading scorer transfer to Ohio University, and the hiring of Poole as head coach just last Friday...

Moving forward... Poole will be recruiting players and the plan is to return the program for the 2020 season.
