Mary Ostrowski was a former Parkersburg Catholic star, which the award ended up being named after, and Kirby is bringing the award back to Parkersburg.
Kirby was a force to be reckoned with all year long. She averaged 17.8 points, four rebounds, four steals and two assists per game for the one loss lady big reds this season. What separated her on the court from the rest was her superior athleticism and basketball IQ, her ability to disrupt other teams with her outstanding defense and thrive on her speed and quickness on offense.
Kirby actually found out that she had won the award after winning the state championship two weeks ago when her family and coach told her, and they were finally happy to talk about their emotions today when the award was announced.
