Community Resources is one of 16 community action agencies in the State of West Virginia and a part of 1,100 agencies nationwide. It is the sole Community Action Agency for the eleven county area known as West Central West Virginia. This includes Calhoun, Doddridge, Gilmer, Jackson, Pleasants, Ritchie, Roane, Tyler, Wetzel, Wirt and Wood counties. CRI serves low to moderate income individuals and families in those eleven counties by promoting the spirit of communities through leadership, education, resources and opportunities that empower families to become self-sufficient, thus creating a community where everyone is a part of the solution. In the 2010 calendar year, CRI provided services to over 4,800 families with emergency needs, home weatherization, education and employment assistance, heating and utility assistance, home acquisition and home repair loans. CRI also offers a free income tax preparation service. What services does Community Resources provide?
Community Resources provides home weatherization, heating and utility assistance, free tax preparation services, home buyers education, low-interest home repair loans, and home acquisition. Other programs offered that may vary based on county or funding availability include tuition assistance, employment fee assistance, food banks, thrift stores, and a diaper closet.
What are the income requirements to obtain services?
Most services are available to individuals that are at 125% of the poverty level. For one person that is income of $13,613 a year. For a family of four that calculates to a total household income of $27,938. A few programs are offered at the 200% level. For a family of four at the 200% level total income cannot be over $44,700.
Where is Community Resources located?
Community Resources has an office in 10 of the 11 counties we serve. Those counties are Calhoun, Doddridge, Gilmer, Jackson, Pleasants, Ritchie, Roane, Tyler, Wetzel, Wirt and Wood. The administrative offices and service offices for Wood County are located at 601 Avery Street in Parkersburg between the Greater Parkersburg Convention and Visitors Bureau and the United Bank building. How do I apply for services?
Call the county office where you reside to make an appointment. All phone numbers can be found at www.cricap.org or call 1-866-585-5525 to obtain the correct number. Upon arriving at your appointment you may be asked to present some if not all of the following information: Current proof of income for each household member receiving income. The following is acceptable: Paycheck Stubs for the last month, SSI or SSD - must have award letters from Social Security Office, Child Support/TANF/WV Works - letter from DHHR Office. Personal Identification (Driver's License, ID card, etc.). Social Security Cards (or other legal document showing the social security numbers) and Dates of Birth for all household members. General Demographic Information (address, contact information, etc.). Current Copy of all Bills such as electric, gas, water, phone, trash, rent, etc. (must show account number, name, and usage). Utility Shut Off Notice if applicable.
