Belpre man connected to veteran’s organization charged with rape
WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ohio (WTAP) - A Belpre man who works to help homeless veterans is facing a sexual assault charge.
According to a news release from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, 56-year-old Rodney Duane James is charged with first-degree felony rape.
The release says that the victim says James had sexual intercourse with her since she was a teen. Those offenses happened in Belpre Township.
James first told authorities he did not have a relationship with the victim.
The release says authorities found evidence James had sexually suggestive conversations with the victim during a search warrant. They also found explicit images of himself he had sent to the victim.
Washington County Sheriff Larry Mincks confirms James was involved with the veteran’s organization Hope4Vets.
The organization has suspended James from his duties pending the investigation and has removed him from its website.
